Keep the subject in focus and blur out those Christmas lights. This is an easy trick by placing the item far away from the lights or using a lense with a shallow focus.

Are you even engaged without the “new last name on the starbucks cup” shot?!

We really played with the focus on these. Bluring out even my face led your eye right to the ring! And made me want to get my nails redone. WHOOPS.
